Starting July 1, 2026, vignettes will be phased out in the Netherlands, and a new road toll system will take effect on the country’s roads. The toll amount will depend on the vehicle’s weight, the level of pollution it emits, and the distance travelled.
It is important to note that the new changes will be strictly enforced from day one, and drivers who fail to comply with the new rules will face extremely severe fines. The highest fines will be imposed on drivers travelling without a properly installed toll device—these drivers will be fined €400, which will increase to €800 in 2027. Driving with a toll device that is not working, turned off, or registered to another vehicle will result in a fine of €250, which will increase to €500 in 2027.
The planned toll rates will be temporarily reduced from September 1 until the end of 2026. Until September and after the temporary price reduction period ends, the toll rates (EUR/km) listed in the table below will apply:
