Traffic restrictions in Bonn

  • February 6, 2026

From February 9,drivers in Bonn, Germany, will face additional traffic restrictions. Vehiclesweighing more than 7.5 tons will no longer be allowed to use the Bonn-NorthRhine bridge on the A565 motorway.

This bridge wasbuilt in 1967 and is used by around 100,000 vehicles every day. At the time ofconstruction, the bridge was not designed for such heavy loads, and over theyears, its condition has deteriorated significantly.

The bridge'sdrainage system is in very poor condition, and the structure of the bridgeitself is damaged, requiring extensive renovation. It has therefore beendecided to rebuild the bridge, creating a new, larger crossing over the riverthat can withstand heavier traffic loads.

Due to theextremely complex nature of the reconstruction work, these traffic restrictionsare likely to remain in place until the construction work is completed.Although the exact project plan is still being finalised, work on rebuildingthe Bonn-North Rhine bridge will not begin before 2030.
